In Pursuit of Joi Olivia Renee Wallace Carla Dean Books

I liked this, a lot. I would read a sequel as I would love to see Joi to actually FIND JOY.

I had a few little issues with the book-

My search was for "lesbian romance" and I really didn't feel the romance as much as I would have liked. There was passion, and some pretty hot sexual encounters - but Joi described her feelings as a need, a drug or an addiction - she told us that she and Toya were insatiable - but there seemed little emotion -love, care, soul connection. This was more like Joi was finding her way to a lesbian lifestyle than falling in love with Toya. In all I would say that the characters were well developed, but the emotions could have used more fleshing out.

Another small thing but I had issue with the dialogue. The slang jarred me some. I had re-read some sentences more than once to understand the context. There was an over use of several terms... By the end of the book seeing the words "Miss, Lady" and "mannish" were like fingernails on a chalkboard... I concede that I'm not very urban, so this might not be an issue for others.

In Pursuit of Joi Olivia Renee Wallace Carla Dean Books Reviews

The Pursuit of Joi is an enticing and enjoyable work by Olivia Wallace. This was a super easy read and I enjoyed this book from start to finish. The storyline itself captivated me and although I didn't care for all that occurred in the book I felt that Wallace did an excellent job portraying the characters in a realistic view. That approach allowed me to feel for all involved in the sordid transgressions. Toward the end, I found the book predictable but I still look forward to seeing if the characters find their JOY!

EyeCU Approved
the story traces what happens when someone who seemingly has it all comes to grip with her past and forges new future possibilities. a healing happens with Joi but not without confronting her deepest desires, her painful past and the necessity of being truthful to herself and those she loves. her bond with her family & friends and commitment to her career do nothing to prevent her from proceeding with these desires... what is left steamy passion, hurt innocent loved ones and a cathartic journey for Joi as she finally makes peace with her past.
This book is a journey away from my favorite literary genre, but it was a page turner that I finished in record time. The characters were respectably developed, and each one was portrayed in a realistic sense. The storyline flowed, but was predictable in the second half. I was pleased with the family bond that Joi, Lexi and Anthony shared, but disappointed that the bond was broken by a "family friend" that Joi knew less than a year. I was let down by the dismissal of an 18-year family unit. Outside of this portion of the plot, "Pursuit of Joi" was a well-edited, easy read.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book! It was so well written with strong character and a strong story line. I could not put it down and I read it in less than six hours! I would definitely recommend this book to others! I was very impressed with the authors story telling skills as the story continued to build with the turn of each page! This was nice break away from some of the urban street fiction novels that I've grown to love! Trust me, You will definitely enjoy this book! Kudos to the author!
This book was so emotional. I've apparently have been sleeping on this a author and her work. The characters were realistic, and development was to the T. The twist and turns kept me wanting more and more. Joi was a character with such a story that goes untold. The author not only showed that love is real, but also that women are often the ones who bring trouble into the marriage. Although there were some mistakes, the story still flowed and kept my attention. Great job author.
This was a good and pleasurable read. I enjoyed the sex scenes they were hot borderline lesbian eroticism. The marriage life I related to personally. Some of the conversations Anthony had with Joi I have had with my wife. I supposed most men have. Wives never take your husbands for granted. In the end I found myself asking Joi was it worth it? You will have to read this wonderful novel to find out.
At first this story was overwhelming... the drastic shift between two girls discovery of their attraction and then a rape..death and a hero in the form of a male name Anthony. I really felt bad for both Characters... a marriage destroyed due to infidelity but here was a woman who was loving a man just because he saved her from other bad men. It really wasn't love... she felt grateful to him and build a life with him based on that. She put aside a real part of who she was to be with him... then comes Toya. Toya who awakened a part of her a important part of Joi. A part of Joi that she thought was dead with her first love... her best friend..... a woman. This story shows how we really can't run away from our true self. This story makes you wonder who are you really hurting....him... her ...or really yourself. Think!
